Dr. Adriana Alvarez<\/h4>\r\n

Adriana Alvarez is Assistant Professor in the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education program. Her research interests center on biliteracy and family engagement with a focus on equity-oriented and strength-based approaches in Spanish-speaking communities. She was a bilingual teacher for eleven years in the border community of El Paso, Texas prior to receiving her PhD in Educational Equity and Cultural Diversity from the University of Colorado Boulder.<\/p>\r\n

Dr. Sofia Chaparro<\/h4>\r\n

Sof\u00eda E. Chaparro is an Assistant Professor at the University of Colorado Denver, where she teaches in the Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education program at the School of Education and Human Development. Her research investigates how race and class influence ideologies of language development and bilingualism, as well as equity in bilingual programs in urban contexts. She obtained her PhD in Educational Linguistics from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to graduate school, Sof\u00eda was a teacher in two-way immersion bilingual schools in Boston, MA and El Paso, Texas. Sof\u00eda is originally from the border town of El Paso, TX, where she grew up bilingually and biculturally.<\/p>\r\n

Dr. Lucinda Soltero-Gonz\u00e1lez<\/h4>\r\n

Lucinda Soltero-Gonz\u00e1lez is an associate professor in the Responsive Literacy Education program. Her research has focused on early biliteracy learning and teaching in young Spanish-speaking children and biliteracy practices in U.S. schools. She investigates ways to create culturally and linguistically responsive learning environments to increase equitable educational opportunities for students from non-dominant backgrounds in school. Her work has been published in a variety of peer-reviewed journals, edited volumes, and co-authored books. She was a Biliteracy and ELD coordinator in the Adams County School District 14 in Colorado and a general education and special education teacher for several years in Mexico and the U.S. She earned her PhD in Language, Reading, and Culture from the University of Arizona.<\/p>\r\n
