\u00a0<\/span>\u2013 Presented by Dr. Rashmi Gangamma, candidate for Associate Professor, Tenure Track for Couple & Family Therapy (CFT)\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Summary: Resettled refugee populations face several challenges in building home and community in their host country, especially if they also have multiple minoritized social identities. I will first discuss the importance of community-engaged scholarship in leveraging relational resources in resettled refugee populations with a detailed description of my interdisciplinary study on the role of gardening in mental health, food security, and economic well-being. Drawing on this and my earlier studies, I will introduce my newer research with LGBTQ+ migrants.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

A brief bio for <\/span>Dr. Rashmi Gangamma (She\/Her): <\/span><\/b>Dr. Gangamma\u2019s scholarship aims to increase access to family therapy services for resettled refugee populations. Using community-engaged scholarship, she works with local organizations and community leaders to build clinical training and research opportunities for graduate students while also increasing access to family therapy resources to resettled refugee populations. Additionally, Dr. Gangamma is currently investigating factors of mental well-being and community building in LGBTQ+ refugee and asylum seekers in the US.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Gangamma has also extensively studied the application of contextual therapy theory, a family systems approach, in couples and families with diverse backgrounds. She conducts quantitative, qualitative, and mixed methods research, and frequently includes graduate students in her scholarship.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Gangamma has published in several leading journals in the field and is on the editorial board of Journal of Marital and Family Therapy, the flagship journal of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT). She serves as a site visitor and accreditation reviewer for the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE).<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
