This presentation will offer possible ways to integrate current events into the curriculum. Discussion will center around three main topics: the effects of COVID19 on vulnerable populations; COVID19\u2019s impact on education with special focus on inclusive online educational practices; and the Black Lives Matter movement that has gained momentum in the U.S. and\u00a0globally.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u2013 Presented by\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Dr. Sandra Candel<\/span><\/b>, candidate for Clinical\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Assistant\u00a0<\/span><\/b>Professor, Teac<\/span><\/b>h<\/span><\/b>ing Track for Culturally\u00a0<\/span><\/b>and<\/span><\/b>\u00a0Linguistically Diverse Educat<\/span><\/b>i<\/span><\/b>on (CLDE)\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

A brief bio on Dr.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Sandra\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Candel<\/span><\/span>:\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Sandra\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Candel<\/span><\/span>\u00a0obtained her doctoral degree in Curriculum and Instruction, with an emphasis in Cultural Studies, International Education, and Multicultural Education at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Her research focuses on the educational trajectories of U.S.-born transnational students who were forced to attend schools in Mexico due to parental deportation. She is also interested in the importance of deported mothers\u2019 advocacy to improve their children\u2019s academic opportunities. Particularly, Dr.\u00a0<\/span><\/span>Candel<\/span><\/span>\u00a0is committed to the academic success of transnational students through the development of transnational-sensitive teaching practices.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
