{"id":10618,"date":"2017-09-11T17:27:23","date_gmt":"2017-09-11T17:27:23","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/sehd.ucdenver.edu\/impact\/?p=10618"},"modified":"2017-09-11T22:22:01","modified_gmt":"2017-09-11T22:22:01","slug":"carlos-hipolito-delgado-featured-on-fox31-daca-repeal-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sehd.ucdenver.edu\/impact\/2017\/09\/11\/carlos-hipolito-delgado-featured-on-fox31-daca-repeal-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Carlos Hipolito-Delgado featured on Fox31 \u2013 DACA repeal story"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1 class=\"entry-title\">What the DACA decision means for college students in\u00a0Colorado<\/h1>\n<p>http:\/\/kdvr.com\/2017\/09\/05\/what-does-the-daca-decision-mean-for-college-students-in-colorado<\/p>\n<p>DENVER &#8212; Certain groups are angry and upset about the White House&#8217;s decision to end the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.<\/p>\n<p>Without a solution from Congress, it will affect families, professionals and students in six months.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt saddens me mostly, it really saddens me,\u201d DACA recipient Mateo Lazano said.<\/p>\n<p>Mateo Lazano is a DACA recipient and college student at Metropolitan State University of Denver.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m paying for school right out of my pocket,\u201d Lazano said.<\/p>\n<p>Lazano works so he can afford school, and if DACA is done, his job is over.<\/p>\n<p>While the government&#8217;s decision doesn&#8217;t take away his ability to go to college, one professor says it might as well.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLife just incredibly harder,\u201d said Carlos Hipolito-Delgado, an associate professor at CU Denver. \u201cYou cannot receive federal financial aid, you cannot receive state based financial aid. It has now made life harder to secure employment, that would help cover the rest.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>What DACA won&#8217;t touch is Colorado&#8217;s asset program.
