Teacher Resource Pick of the Month
Teacher Candidates….looking for affordable resources for hands-on interactive learning????
RAFT (Resource Area for Teaching) , a non for profit organization, supports teachers by turning their dimes into dollars. Teachers spend an average of $500 of their own money every year on classroom materials; at RAFT, most of the abundant, unique items are available at 80-90% off retail prices every day. RAFT gathers unwanted items from local businesses and upcycles them into interesting and unique learning activities. Last year, they diverted approximately 17,500 cubic feet of waste from landfills in Colorado. RAFT supports thousands of teachers by providing them a professional, collaborative space for informal professional development. They also accept donations from all different types of organizations to add to their inventory. Check them out on http://www.raftcolorado.org.

Yer Xiong, Jackie King, and Nicole Miller!
Laredo would like to give a shout out to Yer Xiong, Jackie King, and Nicole Miller for taking long term sub positions at Laredo. It has been wonderful to have such wonderful teachers step into positions at Laredo. They work side by side with the staff doing team planning, participating in professional development, giving TCAP assessments. The principal, Quinn O’Keefe, has been very impressed by the stellar job these ladies have been doing and the time and effort they have put in working side by side with their teams. We will surely miss those who are not coming back after spring break. It has been wonderful having such devoted teachers at Laredo.

I am currently seeking special education teachers for participation in my dissertation research study. Participants must be special education teachers who are involved in providing instruction or intervention for students with specific learning disabilities. Participants who consent to join the study will be asked to participate in phase one of the study and may be invited to participate in phase two of the study. Phase one consists of completing an online survey consisting of questions related to educational and professional teaching background, beliefs about mathematics and teaching mathematics, and attitudes about activities related to doing mathematics. The anticipated time required to complete the online survey is one-hour. A sub-sample of participants will be invited to participate in phase two of the study, which will consist of a recorded structured interview.
